New York Fashion Week: S/S 11 (part three)

with Eric Kim

—

I ended a pretty amazing day with a night to top it off at Eric Kim’s after party. Eric Kim is an amazing designer who previously designed and was the driving force behind the Monarchy collection. He launched his new  menswear collection, MIK CIRE, at fashion week and has already gotten rave reviews. Jay Manuel and Miss Jay were interviewed on Fashion News Live after the show saying that it had a very “rock and roll chic” and that they were excited to place their orders backstage.

I didn’t know what to expect when I was introduced to Eric Kim, but I could immediately tell that he was a really down to earth guy. After all, he brought his baby boy out for the finale of his show (who is totally adorable by the way). I really enjoyed our conversation that was mainly about his collection and his life, etc. but I also got a few fun questions in. When I asked him what his favorite collection was of his career, he confidently told me that this was his favorite. I joked that every designer says that after their show that ‘this one is their new favorite’, and he laughed agreeing with me, but said that this was still his favorite and he had the most fun with this collection. We kept talking and somehow we ended up on the topic of least favorite designers … I won’t name names but he may have alluded that a certain designer (one that likes skulls and tigers and ribbon like things with words), in his opinion, is a sellout. As if he wasn’t already cool enough, he sealed the deal right then and there. Eric Kim is a rockstar.

Z Spoke by Zac Posen

I absolutely loved the styling of this show… everything was bright and colorful with lots of funky glasses and accessories and definitely tons of great pieces I would love to wear.

The Hudson Hotel

I also was able to take in one of the most unique hotels I have ever stayed in – The Hudson Hotel. Although I didn’t get to see all of it, I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone who really likes fun, boutique-like hotels. It had a very European feel to it with tiny but immaculate rooms with clean lines and ultra-modern style. Top it off with cool elevators, crazy furniture and unique lighting and it was a total winner. I wouldn’t recommend it for any more than 1-2 people though because it would be pretty cramped, but for a fun adventure definitely check it out.

It was a great blessing to meet so many amazing people and to see some of the very best of American fashion. I look forward to what is to come from London, Milan and Paris!
