boy meets girl

Urban Outfitters Jacket | H&M Boyfriend Jeans | Vintage scarf | Banana Republic Tank | Stuart Weitzman Slingback Pumps

San Francisco, CA

One of my new favorite things to do is mix girly with boyish styles. I loved putting this outfit together because I felt really classy and stylish, but was also REALLY comfy – like to the point where I felt like I should’ve been a boy because only boys get to be that comfy and look nice. I also really liked putting together some of my staple pieces. Everything in this outfit is a personal staple of mine. To me, a “staple” is something that you can pull out of your closet at any given time, is classic across ever changing trends, and has the versatility to go with just about anything.

Putting lots of staples together usually is a sure fire hit, but try and add one or two things that make the outfit pop (like a scarf, or more chunky necklace) or else too many staples can be a bit of a snooze.

I mentioned previously that I was on a hunt for boyfriend jeans, and luckily I found the perfect ones last weekend when I went to New York! I am officially obsessed… they are comfy, can be dressed down or dressed up, and I have found myself throwing them on every time I need to walk out the door. I particularly love pairing them with classy heels like these Stuart Weitzman’s. These were a Gilt find (the website I mentioned in this post) that were originally $355, but I got them for $179! It also doesn’t hurt that they are the perfect classy shoe for just about every occasion and I have issues with shoes (size 5 remember) so I tend to snag them when I can, especially if I can find a good deal.

WIF (what I’ve found): If you’re going to shell out for something, do it on shoes or something that you know you will wear/use a TON. Years down the road you won’t regret it… plus these days everything has gotten pretty expensive (even cheap-o stuff). Why shoes? Because your entire body is reliant on them, and getting blisters/feet problems from poorly made shoes will cause you way more damage down the road than an extra $50 to your pocketbook.

The rest of this outfit totally fell into place once I put on the shoes and jeans. I love this white blazer, again a staple that you can wear with anything. Throw it on over a skirt, shorts, jeans, even a dress. The white is perfect for summer and paired with a pretty scarf you can add some color and style to a relatively basic outfit. I wore my scarf on the inside of my jacket so that it almost looked like a lining at times and made the jacket look a lot nicer than one from Urban. The boyish pieces were mainly the jeans and my wrap leather bracelet that I found in the boys’ section at H&M. If you haven’t ever wandered through the guys section at stores like that, you seriously need to take a detour next time. It’s not even fair, it’s like fishing with dynamite.

Aside from adventuring around the city, my weekend was filled with too much In-N-Out, Inception and more people watching. Hope everyone enjoyed another weekend of the summer sun!
