I secretly used to hate ponytails. Take a girl who spent the majority of her life with her hair up in one thanks to 18+ years of soccer and she’ll usually pull it down in about 5 minutes. It’s been a combination of a lot of things over the years. I blame soccer, my stick straight hair, my weird cowlick at my hairline.. you name it.
Until recently I’ve avoided them like the plague. I almost never wear one unless my hair has some kind of curl or body to it and usually it comes in a 2nd or 3rd hair day. But, with some recent new products that I picked up from Sassoon I’ve found a game changing product that helps me achieve the salon kind of tousle that makes my straight hair work in a ponytail.
This little Kerastase tousled effect spray helps give my limp strands some body and life. Here’s how I make it work:
STEP 1
After showering towel dry your hair to remove a lot of the excess water. I add in a just a touch of elixir ultime for shine, but not too much because it will make it tough to give my hair texture.
STEP 2
Blowdry until it’s halfway there and use Kerastase root uplifting gel at your roots. This will help you build the volume for your high ponytail.
STEP 3
Finish blowdrying and you can use a round brush or velcro rollers to give your hair some curl and body. I usually set my hair with velcro rollers for a few minutes while it cools down because it’s naturally straight. Leave them until your hair has completely cooled down.
STEP 4
I flip my head upside down and use Kerastase spray-a-porter generously throughout my hair. I don’t focus too much on the pieces in the front and try to avoid the roots. By spraying in the body and evenly distributing your whole pontytail will get the love.
STEP 5
I tease the crown of my head and little bit and further back towards where I put my hair up. Then I’ll use an elastic to pull my hair into the high ponytail. I’ll pull loosely on the hair in front of the elastic and then use the actual ponytail to tighten even more. By doing that you can create a little more volume in the base so that it’s not so tight. Then I just tease the top pieces coming out of the elastic a bit and that’s it!
Speaking of ponytails, it’s been super hot here in the city! We had a few cooler days but with my hair finally growing out longer I’ve been in desperate need of getting it off of my neck. Are you a ponytail gal?
We’re heading to Martha’s Vineyard this weekend for a long, relaxing July 4th weekend! What are your plans?
