As many of you know, I had the privilege of going on my biggest adventure to date recently. A lot of things fell into place and presented this opportunity for me to fly to Paris for almost exactly 48 hours, and I couldn’t resist… so I did it. I had this vision for the trip of me sitting by the Seine eating macarons and drinking wine, people watching on the Pont Du Arts and just exploring one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world – and that’s pretty much how it went! I’ve been to Paris briefly before while I studied abroad, but there were plenty of things that I missed and wanted to take in given the chance to do whatever I wanted, by myself.
It was quite the whirlwind of a trip. I barely slept an hour on the flight there because it was so short and I think my excitement was keeping me from sleeping, so I arrived in Paris at 9 a.m. and immediately hopped on the train to Versailles. When I was last in Paris, my visit to Versailles completely captivated me. I had never seen something quite so grandeur – I mean this place dwarfs the biggest mansion in the U.S. and is full of so much history, it’s astonishing. I didn’t get a chance to see the Petit or Grand Trianon or Marie Antoinette’s Hamlet last time so I felt like I needed to see the entire grounds in order to feel like I had really been there. Plus, you could sit by the Grand Canal drinking hot chocolate all day long if you wanted. I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria Trianon Palace which is on the grounds of the palace (literally you walk out and go down the street to the Grand Trianon), which was incredible and the dreamiest room I’ve stayed in to date. First things first though, I had to get a crepe and cappuccino as soon as I made it into Versailles before my adventure on the palace grounds began. The Trianons were beautiful and the Hamlet was particularly amazing. To think that you could just request for a small village basically to be built because you were bored of/trying to avoid the Palace is so crazy to me, but what do I know :).
I finished the day with a delicious meal in downtown Versailles and headed back to the hotel to indulge in a luxurious bath (my feet were killing me by the end of the day … flats on cobblestone = not a good idea) and passed out from exhaustion.
