I’ve always found that I’m most inspired in what I wear by my surroundings. I think it’s one of the reasons that I always loved summer so much – the bright vibrant colors make me feel like I have so much more to play with wardrobe wise. Growing up in Texas I just learned to love the heat and hate the cold. Can you blame me?!
It wasn’t until I moved up here that I really started appreciating and loving fall. In fact, it’s one of my favorite seasons in the city and is definitely the best time of year to come visit. If you ask any New Yorker now they will likely agree with me – it’s the one season in the city that you really don’t want to miss.
While I’m still savoring the last few weeks of summer and every sunny, warm day, there are have been a few sneaky days and will be for sure in the next month or two that call for a balanced outfit and some longer sleeves. I love nothing more than pairing a long-sleeve shirt or sweater and jean shorts – in fact it’s my favorite and I guess you could call it “signature” look that I wear pretty often.
As the seasons continue to change, who else reaches for plaid shirts constantly?
Over the years I’ve added a lot of different versions to my closet, but I had never picked up a Rails one. If you’re not familiar with the brand they carry a ton of different versions and the distinguishing factor is that they’re incredibly soft and high quality. I finally decided to invest in one and I’m so happy that I did! Nordstrom carries the most variety of their shirts, not to mention a huge variety of plaid shirts at every price.
This particular version runs a little small (which is better for me) and also comes in 5 different colors and patterns. It’s another step for me in the direction of “fewer, better things” as I know I’ll be dressing this top up and down as we head into the fall.

For now I’ll be wearing this top with more shorts, denim skirts, and anything that will keep my legs bare for a little longer. Oh, and getting the very last out of all of my favorite summer sandals!
In the next month or two, I’ll be switching gears and subbing in my new Frame denim black jeans (the perfect black jean for anyone looking!), booties, and maybe even a moto jacket. All of these pieces + my upcoming fall favorites I scooped up at Nordstrom recently. It’s my #1 go-to, especially for shoes, and I’m already wish listing tons of items to complement this plaid top!
Even though I’ll be sad to say goodbye to summer, I’m excited for what the beginning of fall holds. My very best friends will be here in just 2 weeks for a little reunion + group birthday celebration (we all turned 30 this year). We have a wedding in Vermont and will soon after be heading to Korea for our big trip! I can’t believe it’s almost finally here.
